Still Alice

While away in Las Vegas this weekend at my son’s dance competition, I read the book Still Alice by Lisa Genova.  This book is a great read for anyone dealing with loved ones with Alzheimer’s or anyone who wants to learn more about it.  Still Alice tells the story of a proud Harvard cognitive psychology professor who at the age of 50, is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.  It tells the story from Alice’s perspective and shows the impact on herself, her husband, and her adult children.

Many people think Alzheimer’s only afflicts people in their seventies and older.  However, about 5% of Alzheimer’s cases result from early onset Alzheimer’s which begins to show in the 40s or 50s.  This version of Alzheimer’s also has a strong genetic component.

A recent study found that the biggest fear among people over 60 is getting Alzheimer’s or dementia.  For some basic information about Alzheimer’s, please go to the following link: http://localhost:10013karp-law.localkarp-law.localkarp-law.localkarp-law.localtheconversation.com/early-onset-alzheimers-should-you-worry-61845?gclid=CKub0_O66s0CFQJsfgodU9oNsw.

I hope you enjoy the book Still Alice.
